Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth

While singers are encouraged to join at the beginning of the year, recruitment for CCCY singers is ongoing.

Cathedral Choir for Children and Youth

The Cathedral Choir for Children and Youth (CCCY) is a city-wide choir program that fosters a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of music through the singing of sacred choral compositions. The program, which is based on the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) Voice for Life curriculum, is open to children and youth age 6 to 13. No prior music experience is required. Choristers have the opportunity to develop musical confidence, make new friends, and experience music education and faith formation.

Any child or youth interested in joining CCCY is invited to the choir’s opening season meeting on Wednesday, September 15, at 6:30 PM, when rehearsals begin. Dinner will be provided. Each Wednesday thereafter, the evenings are to include a choral rehearsal, music theory lessons, and instrumental music making.

CCCY has brought their childlike wonder to the music of four ten o’clock services for a number of years. This year, CCCY is including collaborations with the Noon Service musicians as well. Offering their music at selected Noon Services is an exciting expansion for CCCY. Children and youth who attend that service, but who are not part of CCCY, will be able to sing with the choir that day.

“There will be a rehearsal before the service to teach any visiting kids the music for the service,” says Christopher Wheeler, director of CCCY.  “It will be simple, yet beautiful music. All will be welcome regardless of musical experience. We’ll have something for everyone to do.”

CCCY enrollment remains open to singers from throughout the area. There is no fee to participate. Along with group meetings, every participant gets a voice lesson with the director each week.
