I am an estate planning and small business attorney who provides advice to clients on financial asset planning. I have also served on several nonprofit boards and, as a result, have been involved in budgeting and endowments. As senior warden at the cathedral, I worked closely with the trustees and attended many of their monthly meetings. I also participated in an update of the trustees’ investment policy statement while chairing the task force on socially responsible investing. I am a candidate to be designated a chartered adviser in philanthropy through the American College of Financial Services.
I feel our overall responsibility of trustees is to preserve the cathedral endowments. In carrying out these duties, we should also be mindful of the importance of ensuring the cathedral’s important role to its own members and the community at large. To this end, the trustees must continue a dialogue with the vestry and clergy staff about the use of cathedral endowments, annual appeals funds, memorial gifts, and other revenue sources to ensure continued programming and mission.
