An Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols
December 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
This beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”
During the service, music, Scripture readings, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience.
Music sung by the choir to include: O virtus sapientiae (Hildegard von Bingen), Confortamini (Orlando di Lasso), A Spotless Rose (Herbert Howells), Canite tuba (Francisco Guerrero), E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come (Paul Manz), Dominus dabit benignitatem (James MacMillan), and A Hymn to the Virgin (Benjamin Britten). (This music is an update from what was been printed in the 2019-20 music brochure.)
This service is being live streamed.
Note: Incense is being used during this worship service.
This service is also being offered on Sunday, December 15 at 3:00 p.m. at Church of Our Saviour, La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador, 65 E Hollister Street, Cincinnati, OH 45219.
