Community Issues Forum
December 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The topic of discussion for this forum is Sanctuary Communities, a new book authored by Brennan Grayson and John D. Tynes, and published by the Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center. The book examines the role of providing “sanctuary” in this current climate of deporting any person who cannot prove their legal status for living in this country and is the topic of discussion for this week’s forum. In particular, the book explores the criteria for qualifying as a “sanctuary city” in this period when ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is intent on deporting every undocumented immigrant. Focusing on Cincinnati, the book rejects that a local government that does not have administrative control of its jail system can call itself a sanctuary community. The book also looks at many of the key issues dealing with immigration and immigration policies with the goal of providing readers with the essential information they need to understand a complex and often emotionally charged subject. The authors are leading the discussion.
