Improving Public Transportation in Greater Cincinnati: What needs improving and how should it be funded?
Our area’s bus services and funding have needed a boost for years. A consensus exists that the current bus system administered by the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) regularly confronts fiscal problems. Meanwhile in the last ten years, bus fares have increased while bus routes have been cut.
One of the major problems is the lack of bus service beyond the city of Cincinnati, an issue that prevents many city residents from employment opportunities in the suburbs. The Better Bus Coalition, comprised of current bus riders, has drawn up plans for a greatly improved system.
During this forum, Cam Hardy, president of the Better Bus Coalition, and Mark Sanaan, also of the Better Bus Coalition, speak about how best to fund improvements.
Community Issues Forums are held September through May, generally on a bi-weekly basis. They are free and open to all. Learn more.
Note: Our next forum will be in one week’s time, and not in two weeks, to accommodate Reds’ Opening Day on March 28.
