The Rev. Canon Karen Montagno joined the cathedral staff as the canon missioner in September of 2018. Originally from Cincinnati, she completed high school in North College Hill and went on to study at The Ohio State University, graduating with a degree in social welfare and a master’s degree in pastoral counseling. After earning her Masters of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, she was ordained by the late Bishop Herbert Thompson, when he was bishop of the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
Karen was dean of students and dean of the chapel at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA, where she served for 13 years. For the past eight years, Karen has served on the diocesan regional staff of the Diocese of Massachusetts as the coordinator for congregational development and resources.
Karen has taught at Boston University as an adjunct professor specializing in courses on race and privilege. She also served as the associate priest in several congregations, most recently at St. James, Cambridge. She is a certified spiritual director and offers individual and group spiritual direction.
Karen came to the cathedral with much excitement about the extent of our outreach ministries, and she enjoys partnering with our diverse community partnerships in her role as canon missioner.
